And we're live.

Last year my domain hosting expired. The obvious result of this was that the website went down. The less obvious result of this was that it was completely lost.

For the past year, I've struggled to figure out where the domain for jacenpatchwork.com was located. I first registered the site through WordPress and then built the site using Bluehost. Easy enough, right? Apparently not. When I tried to track down my domain in either place, they kept sending me back to the other. I did a domain search and found that the domain was registered by Squarespace. At this point, I started to worry.

I thought that perhaps I'd let the domain registration expire and that it had been bought up by a third party. This happens a lot, even to unknown, generally worthless domains like my own. For the life of me, i could not find the domain registered under any of my accounts.

Finally, totally by accident, I found it listed on my Google Domains page. I'm not sure how or when this happened. I was able to disconnect the site from its previous Bluehost hosting, and just rebuilt the site from the ground up using the basic Google Domains toolset. It's faster and easier than working with Bluehost or WordPress anyway.

Obviously, due to the Google Domains buyout, this site will get migrated over to Squarespace at some point this year, but I'm hoping this doesn't impact the site or the cost of maintaining my domains too much in the future.

Regardless, we're back up and running again. So, yay.
